There many myths surrounding synthetic oils and lubricants. I have listed the most common myths, concerns or frequently asked questions about synthetic oils.
Concern: Why should I pay more money for a premium synthetic oil product like AMSOIL?
Answer: Simple, because you are not! AMSOIL OE 5W-20 , 5W-30 and 10W -30 which are 100% fully synthetic motor oils currently costing $ 4.20 per quart for preferred customers and have drain intervals based on vehicle manufacturers recommendations or oil life monitoring systems which may go to 10,000 miles. This costs less than certain conventional oils not including the cost saving benefits provided with synthetics.
Concern: With the increasing price of oil, are synthetic oil prices rising as well?
Answer: No, AMSOIL synthetic oils more price competitive since synthetic oils are not directly affected by conventional oil pricing. In addition, some new products like the AMSOIL OE synthetic oil and XL series API rated oils are priced very competitive in the $4.20 to $ 5.35 per quart range for preferred customers.
Concern: Should I really drink the Kool-Aid and believe that AMSOIL can actually go the distance with these crazy drain intervals as they claim. I read about certain diesel oils and applications that are based on drain intervals up to1 year, 50,000 miles or 600 hours.
Answer: Start Drinking! AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are highly resistant to the destructive effects of heat, and do not break down like petroleum oils. This means that AMSOIL Motor Oils can provide much longer drain intervals than conventional lubricants. I have been changing oil on my 2005 Ford diesel once a year now for 6 years.
For customers who cannot swallow some of the longer extended drain intervals, AMSOIL makes synthetic oils such as the OE and XL series that have drain intervals from, 7,500 to 12,000 with you in mind!
Concern: Does utilizing AMSOIL synthetic oils and extended drain intervals void my new car warranty?
Answer: No way! The federal Magnuson-Moss Act enacted in congress in 1975 that regulates written consumer product warranties that nullifies this myth.
Manufacturers’ warranties are based upon the use of oils meeting specific API Service Classifications, for example, SJ/CF. (AMSOIL lubricants meet the current API Service requirements and, thus, are perfectly suited for use in any new vehicle without affecting the validity of the new vehicle warranty.) Auto makers may not void warranties based solely on an owners practice of extending drain intervals.
Concern:Is it true that utilizing AMSOIL synthetic oil will cause my engine to leak oil?
Answer: Of course not! In modern vehicles, there is no risk of AMSOIL motor oil leaking. In fact, AMSOILmotor oil is fully compatible with modern seal materials. It is properly formulated to condition seals, keeping them pliable to prevent leakage.
Concern: Are there special requirements for changing from conventional oil to synthetics?
Answer: There are no special requirements; however, in older vehicles or those with high mileage, it may be advisable to use AMSOIL Engine Flush first. This will ensure that the engine is clean and free of any accumulated contaminants which might have an effect on the service life of AMSOIL motor Oils. In all cases, it is good judgment to install a new AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter (EaO) every time you change oil.
Concern: Can AMSOIL synthetic oil be recycled?
Answer: vsynthetic oils can be recycled in the same manner as a petroleum-based motor oils.
Concern: Can AMSOIL synthetic oil be utilized in any engine?
Answer: AMSOIL Motor Oils may be used in any mechanically sound gasoline or diesel fueled engine and compressed natural gas. Basically, that means they are excellent for use in any vehicle’s engine.
Concern: Can I mix synthetic with conventional oil?
Answer:AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are fully compatible with all petroleum motor oils, and there is no danger in mixing the two. Mixing AMSOIL and petroleum oil, however, is not a recommended as a general practice. Performance and long drain intervals will be sacrificed and the oil should be promptly changed, at maximum, within the next 3,000 miles.
